Elizabeth Carlock got right to business after she graduated from SMU in August. Just a month after she received her diploma, she launched her own jewelry company, Elizabeth Carlock Designs
. Pretty impressive. The collection includes necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and hair accessories hand crafted from metal and semi-precious stone. The best part? You won’t feel the least bit guilty after purchasing one of Carlock’s designs. The pieces are reasonably priced, plus it’s for a good cause. Carlock extends funds and support to charities in hopes of making a positive difference in women’s lives. For now, you can get these one-of-a-kind pieces online or via trunk shows.
We know how you love the Friday Giveaway’s we do on Shoptalk each week, but did you know that you can also enter to win something from “Steph’s Stash” every month? That’s right, I personally select something to giveaway from my “stash” of fashion and beauty goodies that I receive from local designers, international cosmetic companies, and more. You don’t want to miss out on this month’s giveaway: a beautiful pair of multi-gemstone (peridot, pearl, apatite, garnet, amethyst, and aventurine) and gold earrings (pictured at left – note: they are larger than they appear) from one of our favorite local designers, Amanda Sterett. Sterett has made quite the name for herself since launching her jewelry line in 2004. In addition to selling to Kate Spade and Anthropologie, she was recently featured in InStyle magazine. Check out her latest collection and some one-of-a-kind pieces at The Shak today and tomorrow from 9 A.M. – 6 P.M. Don’t forget to use your Partner’s Card and get 20% off! Oh, and go here to enter now…good luck!
UPDATE: There will be another trunk show (Amanda will be there to help customers) at A. Hooper & Co. in Ft. Worth Thursday, Nov. 13th and Friday, Nov. 14th from 11 A.M. – 4 P.M.
Rozae Nichols, known for her “artfully unique” designs, will be attending the Fashion Dish Luncheon this Thursday, November 5 at 11am at Craft (n the W hotel). In collaboration with The Shak, this event will also feature a trunk show of Nichols eponymous line where guests can shop her fall 2009 and spring 2010 collections. Tickets are $45/person and reservations are required. Contact W Dallas – Victory at 214-397-4106 to secure your seat. A portion of proceeds will benefit Two by Two for AIDS and Art. A great meal, great fashion and great company for a great cause - what more could you want? (While the next logical statement would be to quote Tony the Tiger, I just can’t do it. )
Occhiali Modern Optics will be all about color this Thursday when the eyewear shop hosts a trunk show featuring designs by Alain Mikli. The French designer is known for using unique shapes and colors (he was responsible for Kanye West’s famous shutter shades), so Occhiali is devoting the entire evening to color. Besides browsing fashionable eyewear, you can also sip on a “moodtini” (poured in a shade to match your mood) and have your aura read. The free event goes from 6 to 8:30 pm.
You first heard about Jarma in the spring 2009 issue of D Beauty. I also blogged about the cool vintage line here. So let’s hope this third time you will listen to me and check out their goods at Armoires & More on October 16 and 17 from 11am to 5pm. Owner, Holly Olmstead, has handpicked several new pieces from Vancouver, Vancouver Island and New York. Score some great jewelry, handbags, belts, scarves and more.
From October 7 through 10, Elements (pictured left) is hosting a trunk show of Jodi Arnold’s newest line of clothing. Renamed to Mint, the line now reflects Jodi’s most recent design inspiration: busy modern women who need clothing that works from morning to evening every day. Sounds like us to me! The pieces are created to “make life easier” and work with what’s already in your closet. “I just want to create clothes that I would wear myself,” Jodi says. “Clothes that have a soul.” Elements.

Painter turned couture handbag designer, Danielle Davidson had an affinity for clutches but couldn’t find one that was versatile, creative, and travel-friendly at the same time. So, she designed her own. The result – a leopard-print hide clutch adorned with her grandmother’s brooch – got so many compliments that she decided to launch Danielle Teylor handbags in 2008 and has been handcrafting them ever since. The handmade (in Davidson’s living room) collection of clutches will be available at a trunk show today from 11AM-5PM at Betty Reiter in The Plaza at Preston Center. Each bag features different patterns (solid, leopard, zebra, etc), skins (cowhide and embossed leathers), linings (all suede), and hardware (brooches, antique buckles, etc). The Dallas-based designer will even custom-make one if you like and can incorporate family heirlooms or special pieces into the design. They are truly one-of-a-kind! Check back here on Friday for an amazing giveaway that the designer made especially for you, ShopTalkers!
Designer, Keith Lissner will be in town Wednesday for this month’s Fashion Dish (presented by Pink Memo & W Dallas – Victory) at Craft. The Chicago native – known for his ethereal evening gowns and attention to detail and construction (think layered bodice’s and hidden corsets) – was a contestant on the first season of The Fashion Show and designed menswear for Perry Ellis and Ralph Lauren before branching out on his own to design a collection of women’s demi-couture eveningwear in 2008. He also offers a line of lower-priced (although just as covetable) dresses under his newest label, Keith by Keith Lissner. View and order the Fall/Winter 2009 collections at the trunk show/luncheon on Wednesday. There are still 15 seats left! Contact Katie Bergfeld at 214.397.4106 to reserve your seat for only $45 (a portion of the proceeds benefit Two x Two for AIDS and Art).
P.S. Also attending: one of our favorite style guru’s and newly appointed Editor in Chief of PinkMemo, Katrina Szish. We can’t wait to meet Keith and catch up with Katrina! If you can’t make it and have any questions you want us to ask either of them, let me know and I will do a follow-up post on Thursday with answers to your questions.
Who doesn’t love Chanel? I certainly do. That’s why I will be at their Highland Park Village store on Tuesday, October 29 between 11am and 4pm to see all the gorgeous pieces from the resort collection in person. And you should too. Looking at clothing of this caliber in photos only doesn’t do it any justice. Part of what makes designer pieces so special are the details, the craftsmanship and the fabric – all of which must be seen (and felt) in person to really be appreciated. Be there or be square.
Looking for a shoe that’s both stylish and comfortable? Dana Davis, a line of shoes that incorporates strategic cushioning, customized arch supports, built-in (or removable) orthotics, and fashion-forward design, may just be what you are looking for. The L.A.-based founder and creative director, Dana Davis, will be at Nordstrom NorthPark on Friday September 24 from 11 A.M. – 3 P.M. for a trunk show, to debut the fall 2009 collection of Italian-crafted flats, wedges, and heels. What sets these shoes apart is the “invisible comfort technology” that Davis developed along with podiatrist, Dr. Bob Baravarian. Davis consults with a team of leading foot care professionals including foot and ankle surgeons, podiatrists and pedorthists to engineer each style in the collection, creating colorful and classic styles that are easy on the feet (which I could really use after pounding the pavement during New York Fashion Week).
Today (Thursday, Sept. 17) through Saturday (Sept. 19) StellaDallas is hosting a Missoni Home trunk show in the store. Check out the pillows, throws, bed linens, and more, and receive 20 percent off any order you make. (And tell me those gorgeous colors and prints above don’t tempt you to make one.) The trunk show runs from 10 am to 5:30 pm. Click on the StellaDallas link above to get more info on the storefront.
Every woman can appreciate a stylish and practical sportswear line and that’s exactly what Yansi Fugel has been designing for over twenty years. Her innovative designs have appeared in Bazaar, Elle, Vogue, and W and has been seen on celebrities such as Madonna. Her latest collection of “Travel Jersey” (a capsule collection made of jersey-tech fabrics, in 3 weights) pieces are great staples to include in your wardrobe year-round and are travel-friendly (packs flat and wrinkle-free) and will be featured at Turtletique in Inwood Village August 6-8. The New York-based designer will make a personal appearance on Friday, August 7 from 10AM-5PM.
Shopping for a new watch? We recommend stopping by the Michele watch trunk show at Nordstrom’s NorthPark today until 4 or Saturday from 10-5. View the entire collection of watches for the upcoming season. Customize our own by selecting from a variety of heads (Deco, CSX, Sport, Urban, and more) and straps (bracelet, alligator, grosgrain, patent leather and more). Having trouble deciding? Society Stylist and D Magazine’s Max Factor Face of Dallas winner, Valerie Elizabeth will be on hand tomorrow from 12-3 to assist in creating your strap wardrobe (all watches are interchable). We personally like the ‘Deco Park Diamond’ with the black Alligator strap. Be sure to check out the brand’s new line of well-priced handbags (love the Layla collection) while you’re there!

NY-based jewelry and handbag designer, Kara Ross, will be in town for a trunk show tomorrow evening. The designer’s pieces are sold locally at Neiman Marcus and Stanley Korshak but now’s your chance to have access to the entire collecion and meet the designer in person. Focusing on modern elegance with an appreciation for the past, her wearable yet standout collection is inspired by her travels around the world. Follow the jump for more information and to RSVP. Love jewelry? Me too. We’re girls, after all. (I think it’s genetic.) So thank goodness the ladies at Kacky & Carl understand our need for beautiful baubles despite a bad economy. To help us get our accessory fix without breaking the bank they’re hosting a multi-designer trunk show and sale on Thursday, June 25 from 11am-6pm. Browse collections from Maja (pictured), Marygold and Three Bishops and snag one-of-a-kind pieces at crazy discounted prices.
If you’re wondering where you’ve heard the name Jason Wu before it was probably on President Obama’s inauguration day. That gorgeous white dress Mrs. Obama wore was one of his designs. In fact, he didn’t even know she was going to wear the dress he had submitted for consideration weeks earlier until he saw her on TV. But, prior to that, Wu had already been making a name for himself in the fashion world. His first collection in 2006 (at only 23 years old!) put him on the map as one of America’s leading designers. Influenced by the early days of ready-to-wear in the fifties, Wu believes in celebrating the curves of a woman’s body and creates frocks that emphasize the hourglass figure. In January 2008 he received the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for Women’s Ready-to-Wear as well as being one of the finalists in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. So now that you know who he is, you won’t want to miss his trunk show at Nordstrom NorthPark this Friday, June 12 from 11am-4pm in the Collectors department on the second floor. A rep will be there to answer any questions you may have so now is the perfect time to check out his gorgeous pieces in person. To schedule an appointment or for more info, contact the store at (214)231-3900, extension 1350.
Exciting fashion news for Dallas! Designing duo and former Men’s Vogue editors, Mauricio Quezada and Tasha Green of Hester will be on a road-trip from New York to L.A., hitting up key cities (of course Dallas is on the list) and select boutiques (of course V.O.D. is one of them) to host trunk shows and introduce their much talked about body-hugging designs to customers. Mark your calendars now for Saturday, June 20th and look forward to shopping the spring line, meeting the designers, and placing special orders for the fall 2009 collection at V.O.D. You can follow them through their journey if you wish…they will be documenting their experiences on Style.com’s blog, Style File (the first post is expected to go up any day now).
I was a huge Valentino fan before seeing Valentino: The Last Emperor but now I appreciate his creative genius even more. So when I find out a Valentino trunk sale is on the horizon I hesitate to tell anyone so I can have it all to myself. But alas, I have not yet made my millions so I feel it is only fair share the good news with others, especially you, our loyal ShopTalkers. (I’m such a selfless person, aren’t I?) So run, don’t walk over to Stanley Korshak tomorrow between 10am and 6pm for a one-day opportunity to score some Valentino shoes and handbags that Korshak doesn’t normally carry. Magnifico!
Rhonda first blogged about the Katydid line of funky tees, coverups and accessories here. Now, you can meet the local designer, Katy Messersmith, in person on Wednesday, May 20 at Jenny on the Block in Snider Plaza. From noon until 3pm she’ll be showcasing her 2009 spring/summer designs for women and children. Trunk shows are fantastic because they feature all or most of the line’s pieces, so you’ll have more to choose from than ever before. Stores usually only carry a limited selection but trunk shows allow the designer to bring in as much as they want, whether the store has ever carried it before or not. So head over there for “sips and sweets” and a chance to score some great Katydid duds!
Currently in search of a great summer bag, I was happy to receive an invite to Via Pelle’s accessories drive and party tomorrow night. The West Village boutique is collecting gently worn bags and jewelry (due to a recent “spring cleaning” I happend to have a pile of them sitting in a corner with no destination), which will be donated to one of my favorite charities, Attitudes & Attire. In return receive 20% off all new arrivals (we hear they have cute bags in stock as low as $35!). While you’re there, enjoy a fashion show featuring the latest collection by Brazilian designer Maristella Citelli (pictured at left) and register to win a Francesco Biasia handbag worth $228! What’s not to love. We’ll see you there!
Attention all bathing beauties. Whether you’re ready or not, swimsuit season has officially arrived and nothing inspires us to get ourselves to the gym more than shopping for swimsuits. Local stores V.O.D., Krimson & Klover, Epic Apparel, The Glass Slipper, and St. Bernard Sports are stocked with sexy suits. Here’s the scoop on what and where. New at Krimson & Klover, South American swimwear line, Caffe (fun prints and fashion-forward designs). Trendy-printed two-pieces by Trina Turk at The Glass Slipper. One of my personal favorites, Vitamin A at Epic Apparel. Beautiful bikini’s by Michael Kors, L Space, Seafolly, and Soshanna Swimwear at St. Bernard Sports. This week V.O.D. introduces the stylish swimsuit collection, Shimmi (pictured at left), designed by former models Scarlett Chorvat and Alison Renner. Inspired by Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren, a variety of styles will be available for purchase at the trunk show being held at the Victory Park boutique May 15-May 17. Now all we have to do is get in shape!
In these tough economic times, shopping vintage is a great way to show excellent taste without breaking the bank. Even if you do spend a little more than you should, you can rest assured that your purchase, which has already stood the test of time, will continue to do so for years to come. Wearing something vintage more than once isn’t tacky, it’s an homage to the gorgeous designs and detailed craftsmanship of past eras. Where can you get your hands on such precious items, you ask? Well, you’re in luck. Dallasite, Holly Olmstead, owner of Jarma (whose vintage brooches we featured in the spring 2009 issue of D Beauty), normally only hosts private trunk shows but on Thursday, April 30 she will be offering her fantastic finds (including designer clothes, jewelry, handbags and more) to the public at Armoires & More from 11am-4pm. So head on over and get yourself a piece of history that will add class to any outfit for years to come.
The Forty Five Ten T Room is a go-to for the fashionable folks (including ShopTalk contributors) of Dallas. The light yet delicious delicacies (paninis, soups, salads, and quiche) are equally as tempting as the fashionable finds. Today I met the lovely and always stunning Jan Strimple (pictured at left) there. She even makes munching on a turkey panini look glamorous. We talked fashion, of course, and Valentino: The Last Emperor (she says this is a must-see and will be released in Dallas later this month), Project Runway (more to come on that down the road), Travel Channel’s Samantha Brown (she was recently in town filming a piece on Dallas which Jan was asked to be a part of – not sure when it’s set to air yet), and Kaufman Franco (she loves this line because it’s cut perfectly for her tall frame) who’s fall collection is currently in the store for a trunk show (gorgeous gowns – see images below) . While we were lunching we ran into a familiar face, Kim Dawson model Lisa Bull, who has just moved back to town from L.A. and is currently house hunting with her boyfriend. Follow the jump for photos.
Brian Wolk and Claude Morais, the designing duo behind the cult fashion line, Ruffian are in town for a trunk show taking place at Stanley Korshak today and tomorrow. Check out the fall 09 collection (so many great pieces!) including this chic look seen on Mary Nelson Sinclair (pictured with the designers), who co-hosted an event at Samuel Lynne Galleries Thursday night along with Capera Ryan and Daily Candy Dallas editor, Brittany Edwards for the launch of their new book Ruffian: Inside Out by Nicole Phelps, of Style.com. The book (pictured below) follows the designers through their creative process for two seasons (2008 collections), featuring many great photos and an inside peek of what it’s like to be a rising star in the ever-fickle world of fashion. For those of you interested in getting your hands on the coffee table must-have, it will be available locally at Stanley Korshak and Anthropologie next month for $18.95.
Local retailer Via Pelle, which we was featured in D last year, is welcoming the new season (today’s the first day of spring!) with a new blog and a weekend sale. Save 15% off your entire purchase, including all new arrivals such as Sondra Roberts bags and clothing by Brazilian designer Maristella Citelli. If you can’t make it by this weekend, be sure to check out the upcoming trunk show for local handbag designer, Danielle Teylor, whose one-of-a-kind clutches are all handmade. The designer will be in the store March 26 from 7 PM – 9 PM with her entire spring collection along with Houston handbag designer Mary Nichols. Viva Via Pelle!
