Can’t Miss: Timo Weiland Personal Appearance and Trunk Show at Piermarini

We’ve been having a serious love affair with Piermarini boutique and its mix of talented and harder-to-find designers since it first opened in Uptown. Nowadays days, in its Snider Plaza location, the shop is cooler than ever. For example, pop in this Saturday and you’ll be able to meet designer Timo Weiland and peruse his spring 2013 RTW collection. Minimalistic black and white pieces and feminine, mixed pattern dresses mingle with textured separates like skirts and cropped pants in oversized yellow houndstooth, blouses with sheer panels, and a smattering of fun pencil skirts.

Can’t Miss: Snake Oil/Factory Girl Launch on Saturday

Factory Girl/Snake Oil

Snake Oil/Factory Girl looks (photography, cropped, by Scogin Mayo)

Factory Girl just got cooler. The vintage shop, owned by husband and wife duo, photographer Scogin Mayo and stylist Heather Mayo, have upped their art game again. In addition to the racks of vintage designer gems, rotating art exhibits, and updated online store with Mayo’s beautiful photography, the team has partnered with local, multi-media artist Lizzy Wetzel. The multimedium artist produces a collection of “small hand made totems“ under the name, Snake Oil, a line of  felt sculptures and hand-dyed garments. The collaboration with Factory Girl introduces new hand-dyed tees, tunics, dresses, and kaftans in silk, bamboo, and cotton jersey, ranging from $75 to $450.

According to a press release, the color palette is influenced by the West Texas landscape, as Wetzel says she’s currently dyeing the collection in Marfa, where the desert colors lend a hand for inspiration.

The line hits the store floor at Factory Girl for the first time on Saturday, April 27 during the trunk show, where you’ll find 30-40 of the new, one-of-a-kind pieces displayed. (More will be available by order.) Both shop owners and Wetzle will be on hand to present the new line, and sangria will be served. Valet will be provided out front.

When: Saturday, April 27, noon to 6 pm

If You’re Heading to Elements Today…

…let us give you a sneak preview of what you’re going to see. We talked about today’s upcoming shoe trunk show at Elements on D: The Broadcast yesterday. Take a look:

Mary Katrantzou on the Dallas Museum of Art, Mambo Taxis, and Her Most Dallas-y Dress

I love Mary Katrantzou and everything about her fall 2013 collection. The heartbreakingly beautiful photographic prints, the abstract kimono silhouettes, the muted palette, everything. I wasn’t able to pop in and meeting her during her personal appearance at Neiman Marcus downtown last week, but fortunately, stylist Stephanie Quadri, a sometimes contributor for D Magazine, offered up her talents and covered it. Her Q&A with the designer below:

One of my favorite designer’s of the moment, Mary Katrantzou, is in town today for a trunk show and luncheon at Neiman Marcus downtown. I got the chance to visit with the friendly Brit (she’s actually Greek, but has lived in London for 10 years and calls it home), who has been recognized for her bold prints and shapes that make for standout style. –Stephanie Quadri

Stephanie Quadri: What brought you to Dallas?
Mary Katrantzou: We are hosting trunk shows all over –in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newport Beach, Seattle, New York, and Dallas is our last stop. I flew in yesterday, just in time for a dinner event my friend Nasiba [Adilova] was hosting. I was surprised that people flew in from all over the place to attend–Chicago, Laguna Beach, and New York. We went to The Mansion for a little after party, which was lovely.

McQ by McQueen Goodness at Elements

McQ by Alexander McQueen wolf dressStopped by Elements last night for some bubbly and to get my paws on the McQ by Alexander McQueen things I’ve dreaming about since last week. In just one day, a good portion of the limited collection flew off the racks and found loving Dallas homes, but there is still plenty of McQueen goodness left. See that crazy wolf print dress up top? Yep. I took that home with me. It’s soft jersey material but in a ladylike cocktail silhouette.

McQ by Alexander McQueen
Imagine all the things you could stuff in this deep harness bag (left). Love the Brogue booties with the buckle and double layers of fringe (right).

McQ by Alexander McQueen

I’m blown away by the prints in this lineup. From the signature navy and green plaid to the animalistic green chain print to the kaleidoscope hummingbirds. And, of course, those growling wolves that I love. Perhaps they’re just playing.

The items (a few of which are pictured above) will be in the store for a few weeks, but quantities are limited–no reordering, no special sizes–so you’ll want to get your hands on the things you want early. Get to the Bottom of the Bleulab Denim Craze at Elements

Everyone is mad over Bleulab’s clever reversible denim line. (We’re pretty obsessed, too.) If this is news for you, we’re talking about a collection funky colored, bold print jeans that, when flipped inside out, become a different pair of funky colored, bold print, wax-coated jeans. Of course, if you’re a plainer Jane (no shame in that), there are more subtle versions, like a dark blue wash/coated black combo or a heather green/wax-coated military green duo. A few stores (Tootsies, for one) sell the line, but Elements seems to be boasting the biggest (and likely only) Bleulab billboard in town. Seriously in the Bleulab spirit, the Lovers Lane boutique is hosting a two-day fall trunk show and spring preview party.

Visit the boutique today and tomorrow to peruse the line with brand specialists who can put you in the perfect pair. If you’re free tomorrow, from 3 pm to 6 pm, make that your scheduled stop; the store will be serving cocktails.

When: Thursday, September 27 (today) and Friday, September 28 (tomorrow)
