Peplums, as you may have noticed, are all the rage. The minty green Lela Rose dress above is new for spring along with Jason Wu’s sweet bubblegum skirt on the right. I don’t do pink myself, but I think the colorblocked dress, left, is a confection. The fuchsia pleats are oddly complementary to the seafoam-colored top. It doesn’t hurt that it’s only $46. Seriously. Oh, and it also comes in coral and taupe.

You don’t have to be in the military to wear one of the hottest colors for fall (although I’m sure all our troops are thrilled to know that they are so on-trend right now). Just hit up any local store and you’re bound to see dozens of varieties of garments and accessories that represent this look. Army green is one of my favorite neutrals. It works with just about any color. I like to pair it with brights for a contrast. Next time you’re going to use black or beige as your neutral, why not switch it up and try an army green cardigan, or even some army green tights instead? You’ll be the fashionista of the office and still look classy and professional. Jump for some great local army green finds…

As stores start gearing up for fall, consumers (that’s us!) should take advantage of the plethora of sales on summer clothes. But why should you buy summer clothes when autumn is just around the corner? Because many of summer’s frocks can be translated into fall outfits. One of my favorite trends, mixing brights with greys or army greens, is all the rage for the cooler months. So while you’re out shopping pick up some tights, sweaters and long- sleeve tees in those colors and you’ll suddenly have a whole slew of cute ensembles at your fingertips. Jump to see some great bright dresses and where to get them locally.

In case you haven’t noticed, lace is everywhere these days. The pretty, feminine trend is apparent in all kinds of garments from dresses to scarves. Don’t worry that you’ll look like Madonna from 1985, today’s lace is modern and sexy. Fingerless lace gloves have not (thankfully!) returned. So get out there and add a little softness to your look. Or, play with the contrast of pairing lace with your rocker duds to give it an edge. Jump for more examples of this trend that you can buy today at some of our favorite local stores.

Yes, I love shift and baby doll dresses but after two years of belting just about everything I wear (so I don’t look pregnant), I’m ready for a change. The styles of the fifties were perfect for showing off hourglass figures. After the utilitarian garments of the forties (due to the war), women were happy to be dressing like women again. Fashion in the 1950′s was marked by garments that were body-hugging. Fitted tops were de rigueur as were two types of skirts – slim and full. So with that in mind, jump to check out the pieces I’ve found around town that represent this uber-feminine, ultra-sexy trend. And check back next week for another TrendTracker Dallas.

In case you haven’t noticed, stripes are everywhere right now. I’ve seen them on everything from shirts to shoes. They look especially summery paired with white, but take heed, always remember your body type when choosing a striped garment. Most have horizontal stripes (although I don’t know why, vertical stripes are soooo much more flattering as they lengthen the body and make us look thinner) so if you are bigger on top striped shirts are a no-no. They’ll make your breasts look like watermelons (unless that’s the look you’re going for…). If your bootie or hips are on the larger side stay away from horizontal striped dresses or long tops as they’ll just make you look wider. Diagonal stripes are also slimming so look for that as an alternative. And the more narrow the stripe the less “body-widening” it causes so keep that in mind too. On the other hand, if you want to enhance your chest, hips or butt, then horizontal is the way to go. Or, skip the clothes and just accessorize with stripes. Scarves, shoes and jewelry are a great way to utilize a trend that just won’t work with your figure. But don’t fret, none of us are perfect. Every person can’t wear every trend. It doesn’t mean you are too plump or too thin or misshapen. It means you are human. No biggie. Like I said, just accessorize with a trend or skip it altogether and find one that plays up your assets. To that end, be sure to check back next Friday for another TrendTracker Dallas. Jump for more examples of striped pieces and where to get them locally.
