I’ve always been a fan of Dallas aesthetician Renée Rouleau’s products. They work. Simple as that.

If you’re not digging your current product lineup, now’s the time to try something new. How about something from Renée Rouleau? Sample This boutique has officially been in Mockingbird Station for two years, but do you even know what it is? The warehouse-style shop on the end of the lane, neighboring Victoria’s Secret, houses racks of sample size clothing (sizes 2-8). You might have to do a little digging, but there are real gems scattered through. Occasionally, you’ll stumble upon items with no tags, but the payoff is the super marked down price tags. I inquired about the tagless nature of some of the items, and here’s the deal, according to owner Allyson Cooke:

We buy all of the pieces in Los Angeles from designers who are wanting to get rid of their samples from the past season. We are able to buy them at very discounted prices because they are not production sizes, meaning they are no particular size just a sample made for the models. That is why everything is one of a kind, meaning we only have one to sell. Also there is no size tag in the clothing so our customers just have to try it on. Some of the designers do cut out their labels because we are selling the merchandise at wholesale prices and the actual production from these designers is double or more from what we are charging.

The collection of designer gifts tanked. New York Magazine says it’s because some prices were still too steep. Time reports the collection was “out of touch.” Either way, there’s a silver lining. If you do happen to like the goods–I mentioned the Derek Lam skateboard in October–what’s left is discounted. Big time. For example, my beloved board is now $30 (down from $100). It’s was a Dallas hipster’s* paradise yesterday. The line was out the door at 2 pm. The wait for the dressing room was over an hour. But the deals were killer, and they’re not over yet. Although yesterday marked the exclusive preview of the big seasonal sale, everyone’s invited to LF today to take advantage of the storewide 60 percent off. That’s right. The merch on every rack, every shelf, every nook and cranny and jewelry stand is more than half-off. Find cutoff shorts in every color of the rainbow, an abundance of studded things (shoes, shorts, jackets, clutches, etc), pastel cutout dresses, floral print, and ombre everything. It was entertaining (if slightly annoying) listening to SMU 20-somethings babble on about rush and getting Mom on the phone to find out the spending limit, but a pair of black waxed jeans (from $200 to $80), a sheer, skull-print high-low top in mellow yellow (from $148 to $60), and a little lilac number with chain straps (from $124 to $50) was worth the earful. Sale runs through Sunday.
