So, a friend sent me a link to this deal for Wink Threading Salon on Groupon. I love Wink. Now onto Groupon. If you haven’t checked it out, I suggest you do. I must admit I’m a newbie to this, so I can’t explain all the details to you, but, basically, Groupon is a site that offers daily deals on local businesses. Former deals have included $149 for a $229 skydive in Dallas, $85 for $250 eyelash extensions at Lash Studio, and $45 for $125 worth of hair services at Dear Clark. Crazy, right? Please tell me I’m not the last person on Earth to find out about Groupon.

Lakewood Home Festival Market this Weekend

Shop over 60 unique vendors showcasing art, jewelry, children’s items, holiday keepsakes, gourmet foods, and more at the Lakewood Market, which is part of the 33rd annual Lakewood Home Festival – hosted by the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA) – that raises funds for Lakewood Elementary School, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School.
When: This Saturday (10 A.M. – 5 P.M.) & Sunday (11 A.M. – 5 P.M.)
Where: Lakewood Elementary (3000 Hillbrook at Sondra)
What: Shop local vendors (such as Yes Ma’am! & APRONanantomy – pictured at left) while you snack and sip goodies from Penne Pomodoro, Paciugo, White Rock Coffee, and Society Bakery.

Laura and I checked out the White Rock Home Tour on Sunday benefiting Hexter Elementary School. The houses were pretty spread out, so how could Hexter include all of them? Just a question. The only new one was an Alan Hoffman on Groveland – cool neighborhood, I felt like I was in East Texas. The other homes were mid 50s Ju-Nel homes – compact and beautifully effecient. I was struck by the artwork on Woodgrove – all done by the owner of the house, James Colley. I was also struck by the master closet only containing men’s clothes. So, I asked. The owner, as it turned out, and he just said “The woman’s clothes have been relocated. To another house – they used to fill the whole space.” So, I put my foot in my mouth once again. Just when I was going to try to get a deal on a painting.

Happy Earth Day. Did you do anything fun? I went to the Arboretum. Maybe you’re not ready for the Earth Day celebration to end. Maybe you haven’t even started. My suggestion: check out the White Rock Home Tour. What does one have to do with the other, you ask? Well, one of the houses on the tour was built by Alan Hoffman, noted green builder. Apparently, the yard is xeriscaped and the house is Platinum LEED-certified. Go talk to him either this Saturday or Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Get more information on the tour here.

Friends, the White Rock Home Tour is next weekend (Apr 25 & 26). Do you have your tickets yet? Here’s why you should go: 1) It’s fun to enter the homes of people you don’t know without fear of arrest. 2) You get to see 4 cool midcentury modern homes. 3) There’s a chance, dear people, that you could run into Peggy and me. (Oh, Peggy, did I tell you? We’re going.) Not enough? You people are greedy. I just received word from a friend that the Container Store donated a closet makeover to one of the Tour’s homeowners. The lucky folks were chosen because they are juggling four small children. (Lord. The very idea…) Anyway, you can check it out for yourself. Buy tickets at White Rock Coffee, Green Spot ,or select Tom Thumb locations by April 26 and save $5.

Mark my words, the month of April is going to go fast. You’ve got April Fool’s, Arbor Day, Earth Day, and Easter. Did you know that April is also National Poetry and Jazz Appreciation month? The point is, you need to plan your days very carefully, and that’s why I’m giving you a head’s up about the meet-and-greet with noted green builder (and one of D Home‘s designated Best Builders) Alan Hoffman at 8930 Groveland on Saturday and Sunday (April 25 & 26) from 1-3 p.m. Ask him anything–why he went green, how you can go green, what he thought about me when he met me, and so forth. This is just one aspect of the fabulous White Rock Home Tour. More events to come, so keep the calendar fairly clean that weekend.
