“Buy More! Save More!” This is exactly the kind of marketing ploy I love falling for. I’ll absolutely spend more if you tell me I will save more! Duh. Shopping at Wisteria this month is well worth falling for this trick, though. (By the way, did you even know that the beloved home accessories store has moved even closer to us here in Dallas?) Now, you can look online to get excited about the things you want to buy in the shop, but just know, the warehouse store houses even MORE items than the catalogue contains. How’s that for incentive? Now grab your hubby’s truck, empty it us his junk, and prepare it for lovely lamps, funky furniture, and gorgeous gardening accessories. You’ll get anywhere from 15 percent to 30 percent off, depending on what you spend, and when you’re talking about spending a good chunk of change on furniture, these discounts will make a dent in the total. Who else has started spring cleaning? I began in my closet last night, and I have one preliminary bag of clothes that will either make it to my sisters in Houston or, of course, Good Will. I need to do about three more rounds, but for some reason, I still can’t part with some of the clothes that I never wear. (A paradox I’ll never understand…) Annnnyway, with spring cleaning comes extra room. And what looks better in a bare room than some beautiful, vintage pieces of furniture and accessories? The Dallas Flea Market Opens Doors Dec. 5

Our very own upscale flea market opens at South Side on Lamar December 5. Made up of rows of Texas-based artists, this flea market will feature all kinds of goodies, like art, home goods, accessories, clothing, furniture, and edible treats. According to the market’s curator, Brittany Edwards, the concept for this flea market was inspired by legendary flea markets in California and New York and will contain a highly edited mix of Dallas’ best jewelry makers, bakers, designers, etc. She’s hoping, she says, to give the public access to some of Dallas’ hidden treasures. So mark your calendars for December 5 and get ready to do some local shopping! Five dollars gets you in the door, and most major credit cards will be accepted. West Village a Welcome Haven for Haven

I finally dropped into Haven‘s new digs at the West Village the other day. You remember that store, right? Lovely home furnishings boutique in Victory Park. Such wonderful chic finds. Oh that’s right. You probably don’t remember it because hardly anyone shops at Victory. At least that’s what co-owner Jon Tutolo (pictured left with co-owner John Bassignani) told me. “Some days I wouldn’t see a soul. Now, there’s people walking by my shop. There’s such an energy here at the West Village,” he said. Though the new store is a 1/3 of the size of the original, it’s chocked full of candles, linens, lamps, books, furniture, and gifts galore. In honor of Earth Day, April 22, Dr. Delphinium encourages everyone to check out the “Going Green” section of their web site for tips on how to keep the planet clean and healthy for us all. In addition, and this is my favorite part, they’re offering a $10 credit to their store for every five vases you bring in to them (what they don’t use, they’ll recycle). It seems everyone always has extra vases lying around (I know I do) and Dr. D came up with a great way to rid yourself of them and make a little dough on the side. I mean, what red-blooded woman doesn’t want a credit to a florist? We don’t need men to buy us flowers. We can buy them for ourselves! In the words of some of the most brilliant speakers of our time, The Spice Girls, “Guhl powah!” So clean out those cabinets and take part in their recycling program. Mecox Gardens Offers You a Sneak Peak of New Pieces!

Lambert’s + Azaleas = Turtle Creek

It’s kind of hard to see it on this cold and dismal day, but spring is here. And what is the most ubiquitous sign of spring in Dallas? Azaleas. Lots of them in lots of colors – hard to believe they were not thought to be able to grow in Dallas until Lambert’s brought them here in 1935. Lambert’s is celebrating 90 years of making Dallas beautiful – from time to time I’ll show old photos of how their landscaping shaped Highland Park. PS – if your daughter is going through sorority rush – DO NOT photograph her at Turtle Creek with the azaleas. From what I’m told, her picture will be ditched immediately.
