13th Annual Fashion Dallas/Kim Dawson Model Search Open-Call

Will you be the next Erin Wasson?

Will you be the next Erin Wasson?

It’s that time of year again. If you’re itching to get into the modeling biz and are between 14 and 22 years old and 5’7” to 6’ in height (for females) or ages 16–24 and 5’11” to 6’3” in height (for males) then strut on over to NorthPark’s NorthCourt (between Nordstrom and Macy’s) on August 22 from 1-4pm and give it your all. You could join the ranks of former winners like Maybelline face Erin Wasson (the first winner – who has also graced the pages of D Magazine), runway star Mimi Roche, Abercrombie & Fitch model Chaise Mooty and Teen Vogue stars Ali Michael and Jessica Cline. Over 1,500 hopefuls try out each year but only one can be the Fashion Dallas/Kim Dawson Model Search winner. At the open-call you will submit an application, get your photo taken by Larry Travis, who we have used for many D photo shoots, and walk the runway. Head shots will appear on CW33’s website, where the public will vote and choose one lucky semi-finalist!. The 2009 winner will receive a one-year contract with Kim Dawson Agency and a prize package from NorthPark Center including $1,000 in NorthPark Gold. He/she will also appear in a commercial promoting CW33.

And if you’re busy on Saturday, but dream of a career on the catwalk, fear not. Applications, which can be found at dallasnews.com/modelsearch, will be accepted via mail until August 24.

Take the White Rock Home Tour

Like free stuff? Have a love for midcentury modern? Today is your lucky day. Send me a haiku about your adoration for midcentury mod. Best entry gets a pair of free tickets to the White Rock Home Tour this weekend, my admiration, and a little taste of fame when I post  your poem. Start working. You have until tomorrow at noon.

D Art Slam Part Deux

My last blog was for those who want to see art with their eyes and buy art with their monies. This post is for you folks that want to show your stuff–the “talent” as it were. Here’s the thing about art shows: you can’t have them without art. So we need the best and brightest locally to make submissions. We’ve even made it easier on you by extending the deadline until April 5. Go here to dazzle us. Winners of the show will appear in D Home and, of course, our big brother D.

ShopTalk Contest: Name a Nail Polish for Polished

Our good pal Court Westcott at Polished in Plano sent me a message today, asking me if we wanted to do a nail polish-naming contest on ShopTalk. And of course I said yes! I know you’ve often wondered how fun it would be, and now’s your chance. Hey, Court. Maybe the lucky winner could win a gift certificate for a Sparkling Duo? Just a thought. Ladies, leave your suggestions in the comments section. And be creative! (Nancy, Laura, my money’s on you.)

Max Factor Needs You

Perhaps you’ll recall the call for entries on this very blog for the Max Factor “Are You the Face of Dallas?” contest. And you will definitely see the ad on p. 1 of the spring issue of D Beauty, which hits newsstands today. Well, this is my second official reminder that you have until April 2 to submit your makeover photo using Max Factor products. I know there are some gorgeous gals out there, so show us what you got!

Vote for Your Dallas Favorites at Allure.com

So I should give a shout out to Renee Rouleau, whose newsletter alerted me to this poll on Allure.com, asking for our favorite Dallas beauty spots. (She’s one of the choices, of course!) When you’re done with your selections, it shows you who’s in the lead (I like that). Then you have a chance to vote for your favorite destination spa–I’ve been to several of those listed, and I chose Lake Austin Spa–and an opportunity to enter to win $3,000 worth of beauty merch. Vote today!

You Need To Enter the Max Factor Contest

I know how you girls love a good contest. And this one’s a doozy. You may have seen the ad in D Magazine. You will certainly see the ad in the upcoming issue of D Beauty, on newsstands March 12. But here’s your chance to be among the first to enter. Max Factor is looking for the face of Dallas. Entrants should create a look using Max Factor products and submit a photo, explaining how you created this signature Dallas look. You have until April 2 to enter, and the winner will be featured in the June issue of D Magazine. Fancy!
