Elaine Turner’s New Collection is London Chic and Mad Men Cool

London chic and Mad Men cool might sound like an odd combination but believe me, it’s fabulous! Raya and I met with Elaine Turner at her NorthPark store yesterday and got to see and hear about this fantastic new collection straight from the designer’s mouth. First let me say that Elaine was a sweetheart – warm, friendly, easy to talk to. She explained that she’s always had a passion for interior design and often gets inspiration for her handbags and shoes from various interiors. Many pieces from the current collection are based on the work of well-known British interior designer, David Hicks who was extremely popular in the sixties. Hicks was known for mixing styles and patterns into a cohesive, clean, clutter-free space. Additionally, Elaine was inspired by the interiors and fashion of the TV show, Mad Men. Several of her new bags represent forties in shape, materials and patterns. The entire collection is made up of gorgeous bright-colored patents, patent neutrals and sexy animal prints. Elaine kept the recession in mind while creating this line making bags that she thougt would carry over from season to season. (Bless you, Elaine!) My personal favorites are here, here and here. (I couldn’t narrow it down to just one!) And Raya loves this week end bag. If you’re wondering where Elaine’s signature bold patterns and prints are don’t worry. They’ll be back for the summer. In the meantime, indulge in the pops of color, exotic embossed leather and retro shapes of her fall line. C’est magnifique!

Cookie Johnson Launches a Denim Line for Curvy Girls Cont’d

Pardon the delay, but the report Jennifer told you about is here! After hopping in the car and heading to Sussie’s in Frisco, D Nightlife girl Kyle and I finally met Cookie Johnson, creator of Cj Jeans (and wife of Magic Johnson). My conclusion? Cookie is fabulous and the jeans are, too. Sussie’s owner Rory says the jeans are “made for butts,” and that is so true, but there’s more to the jean line than that. Cookie says they’re created with “real women” in mind. The jeans are designed to sit higher in the front and back, nixing potential panty exposure, fit back in that waist for a snug, sexy fit, and duh, come in the trendiest styles, like boyfriend cut, bootleg, and skinny. The jeans are a luxury brand, made of high quality material, and lined with a silk waistband for comfort. But the prices aren’t through the roof. Most pairs ring up at $150 to $180. New Dallas Shops for Tots

In the current issue of D, I wrote about an adorable vintage-inspired children’s line called Pout and a few other tid-bits on cute things for kids. It seems that this is one category of retailers and fashion unaffected by the recession. Kids stores and clothing lines seem to be popping up everywhere, including two new stores worth mentioning in Dallas. Christine Visneau, designer of clothing line, Baby Bean Vintage Daywear has decided to open up a shop for tots, Little Bean, that’s stocked with cute clothes (including her own line) and unique accessories, gifts, and art from independent designers. Little Bean (pictured at left) is tucked away in East Dallas’ historic Junius Heights neighborhood (5308 Junius St.), where Christine’s sewing machine is on site for made-to-measure requests and spur-of-the-moment creations that you won’t find anywhere else. Also be sure to stop by Mockingbird Station to check out the recently opened (Erykah Badu attended the Grand Opening party last week) Kidrobot. The gallery-store sells limited edition art toys and apparel, many collectibles.

Prices start at $150. The designer herself will be at Sussie’s at 4 pm tomorrow, July 31, and at Norstrom on Saturday.
