Must-Have Shoes for Fall (as Seen on My Recent Trip to NYC)

My lace-up booties. I scored these babies for just $30!

I recently returned from bridal market in NYC (which is basically fashion week for wedding gowns) and let me tell you that the wedding industry people are just as fashionable as their counterparts at Elle and Vogue. Gorgeous frocks were abundant but what really stood out are what seem to be the “it” shoes for fall, high-heeled, lace-up booties. From stilettos to wedges to thick heels, they ran the gamut. I even ended up buying a pair of my own while I was there. But you don’t have to travel 1,500 miles to get yours; they are all over our local stores – at varying prices. So find a pair that fits your feet and your budget and look hot and fashionable all winter long. Jump to see more examples from the fabulous women of New York. (more…)

Halloween Hair at Salon Madrid

Be the best Neytiri of the bunch.

When it comes to Halloween, we spend ridiculous amounts of time on our costumes and our makeup. I think I speak for most when I say we get a little sloppy with the hair. (For example, I went as Marie Antoinette one year, and when I worked my up to the top of my head, I gave up, stuck a little pink bow in it, and hoped everyone would guess who I was by the outfit. I mean, I’m no hair stylist, you know?) The obvious answer is to wear a wig, but the majority of the wigs found around Halloween time are… well, gross. I’ve got a solution, though. Jason and Angel, owners of Salon Madrid and former film and TV hair crew in LA, are cooking up all kinds of fantastic hair decor this year. Yes, they’re wigs, but they’re fabulous. The Avatar piece, right, is just one of the dozens of options. Think Cruella de Vil, Cleopatra, geisha girls, and vampire locks. (Oh, and the gorgeous Marie Antoinette ‘do I should have been sporting is there, too.) “If someone can think it up, we can build it,” Jason says.

Halloween Party at The Shining on Thursday

Adorable vampire teeth rings at The Shining.

One of my favorite new stores is, unsurprisingly, hosting a Halloween shindig this week. Jewelry boutique The Shining, which packs in avant garde finds like scissor-adorned necklaces and rings with talon-enclosed jewels, is the perfect setting for a shopping affair in honor of All Hallow’s Eve. The newest lines to have arrived at the shop will be the star of the show, but free beer, wine, and will keep the good spirits flowing. Tickets for a contest to win jewely will be given away, too. Thursday, Oct. 28, 6 pm to 10 pm.
