Hadleigh’s Relocates to Highland Park Village

We introduced readers to the private lifestyle atelier, Hadleigh’s, in the September issue of D. It was located in the back of the owner’s (Gable and Ed Shaikh – pictured at left with daughter, Hadleigh) Kessler Park home. They recently relocated the shop to suite #74 in Highland Park Village – above Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt.  The newly designed space features charcoal maple floors with snow-white walls, an open ceiling with exposed rafters and Italian club chairs…a chic base for the beautiful bespoke wares (i.e. Barker Black, Cesare Attolini, d’Avenza, and Emanuele Maffeis) offered at the appointment-only boutique. Minx It Up at Troy Richard Salon

I told you you can get it here. Minx (as seen on Lady Gaga’s nails left)  is now being offered at Troy Richard Salon in Frisco, too. Prices for nails will be $45-47 (depending on your choice of a metallic or pattern set) and $52-57 for toes. Polish Pick: Barefoot in Barcelona

If nude colors are your thing, this new one from OPI’s Collección de España is a must. It’s similar to CND’s Cocoa, but not quite as warm. This creamy pink-beige-with-a-hint-of-gray color is dark enough to wear on toes, but muted enough that you can wear it every day with any outfit. I rarely finish a bottle of polish, but this might be one I’ll have to buy in bulk to keep my stock from running short. Mattia Bonetti – I’m Looking for You

I’m currently obsessed with a new book by Rizzoli of Mattia Bonetti’s work that is a somehow cross between Gaudi and modern architecture.  I’m also sure I’ve seen this table somewhere in Dallas – Laura confirms I had this image on my wall at the old office.  So where is it, and where can I see the whole collection? Any ideas from anyone?  A self-described “troublemaker turned traditionalist”, Bonetti’s style was referred to as “barbaric.”  Now. that wasn’t nice, was it?

I’m new to Mad Men, and like any convert, I’m obsessed. I have Mad Men outfits. I pretend I’m going to Ossining, New York, when I’m taking DART to Mockingbird Station. And I desperately want to copy Betty Draper by going to Italy, piling my hair up in a very, very, very high beehive, and kissing my husband Don Draper. In the meantime, I am making due with this gorgeous book–Italian Touch by Donata Sortorio. This gorgeous book almost makes me forget all about the fractious families on Mad Men for a moment or two and instead focus on gorgeous and stylish Italian families and how they live. How do they get away with looking this good in casual clothes? Seriously, do you know how absurd my family would look if we tried to pull off this off? Sigh. Go get the book now.

Sale at NorthPark’s Intimacy – Perhaps the Greatest Bra Store Ever

Several of the D staffers recently attended the opening of the bra specialty store, Intimacy and wow, were we blown away. Most bra stores/departments carry a limited amount of sizes (American sizing) but Intimacy carries mostly European lines which have almost double the amount of sizes. We all came out of there not only feeling bra-educated but with bras that actually fit perfectly. One of the unique things about this store is that they offer free fittings with one of their specialists (make an appointment through their web site). You get your own private dressing room and one of the specialists goes out into the store to pick bras she thinks will work for you. You then proceed to try them on (yes, in front of her but don’t be shy – they do this all day and I’m sure they have seen more breasts than most men) and discuss why each one works or doesn’t work. In the end, you’ll have a new (and improved) bra size. The bras probably cost more than you are used to paying (average is probably around $100) but the folks at Intimacy believe they should last you a couple of years. Plus, they do free alterations.
