Oh, please. You know you like it. (I mean, you’re reading this blog–aren’t you, Todd?) If I were a boy, I would totally go to this. In fact, maybe I’ll go to pick up a boy. Anyway, I digress. Jack Black is coming to Dallas for three Saturdays to give away facials, hand massages, and skin care and shaving consultations. Here’s the sked:

In case you didn’t notice our Sale of the Week, here’s some news you can use: the semi-annual sale Sussie’s began today. You can save 50% on some of my very favorite designers, including Trina Turk, Milly, Ella Moss, Michael Stars, and Nanette Lapore. While you’re in there, check out the seriously cool shoe selection at Pumps. Both of these places are D Beauty Award winners, BTW. Get to Frisco before all the goods are gone! And be sure and tell Rory we sent you.
We Dallas women are serious about our hair–one of the many reasons we just did a big hair issue for D Beauty, which hits newsstands tomorrow. Well, we’ve got a new salon to talk about: Hair by Charlie. Join owner Charlie Price and crew on Thursday, June 25, from 8-11 pm, for Belvedere Vodka cocktails, the stylings of DJ Parker Lawson, and an auction benefiting The McKinney Avenue Contemporary. The best news? This party is free, yo.
Everyone’s saving their pennies these days, but designer denim priced below wholesale doesn’t come around often. The traveling Warehouse Sale will make a stop at F.I.G tomorrow and Friday. Truck loads of jeans for both guys and gals are being brought in and marked down up to 80% for this two-day sample sale. Stock-up on premium brands such as English Laundry, 575, Genetic, J Brand, Rock & Republic, William Rast, and more. Buy four pair and get one free! RSVP here now to get free access or pay $5 at the door. Start scraping together that spare change now or throw down some plastic if you prefer, they will accept both.
Melanie Gayle is slashing prices at both her Plano and Dallas stores. Starting tomorrow there will be new markdowns at 40% off! Additionally, the Snider Plaza location will also be having a sidewalk sale from tomorrow through Saturday. Melanie stocks her stores with awesome pieces and items that can’t be found elsewhere so get over there before all the good stuff is gone!
If you weren’t one of the almost 400 people at Mecox last night, you are about the only person in the design community that wasn’t. I’ve never seen the Mecox store so packed, so I really couldn’t see how it looked, and apparently no one wanted to leave. They finally had to start turning lights out so people would leave at 9. Bunny Williams was late getting there with plane troubles, but got right to it – signing books and chatting with her fans with her usual easy charm. You can see from the photo, that there was no line cutting, these people were serious about an autographed book. Owner Mac Hoak was thrilled – he told me that the Dallas store is one of the bright spots in the country. Well, we already knew that.
The lovely people at The Stoneleigh know how hard we are working to keep our heads above water these days so they are offering specials every Monday through Thursday (through the end of July) to help us relieve some of our stress. See the list of specials here. In addition, they will be hosting a party on June 17 from 5-7:30 pm where you can sip anti-oxidant cocktails, get a spa consultation, receive 20% off spa retail items and go home with a gift bag of goodies. RSVP to spareception@stoneleighhotel.com.
Yes, beauty means different things to different people. But here’s hoping that you, dear ShopTalkers, know women whose beauty is more than skin deep. That’s certainly true of last year’s winners. Now we’re accepting nominations for this year’s 10 MB, who will be featured in the December issue of D Magazine. So if you know someone deserving, enter her here. Below are the official rules:
Contestants must be 21 years of age or older and must be residents of the greater Dallas/Fort Worth area. We are looking for candidates who exemplify values and integrity in line with the D Magazine reader. What does that mean? It means that special consideration will be given to candidates who give back to the community through regular charitable donations or community activism. This contest is not based solely on physical appearance. Let’s be honest: if you’ve got shark teeth and scars where they removed your vestigial gills, you probably won’t win our contest even if you’ve selflessly dedicated your entire life to working with wayward puppy dogs. All finalists must have compassion, charisma, intelligence, and respect for fellow man—in other words, inner beauty. And, of course, smoking-hot looks. That, too. The editors reserve the right to disqualify any candidates for unsavory behavior (vapid, vain, immoral, loose, unethical, etc.). Finalists will be chosen and contacted by the D editors. Online voting begins on August 3, 2009.
If you’re wondering where you’ve heard the name Jason Wu before it was probably on President Obama’s inauguration day. That gorgeous white dress Mrs. Obama wore was one of his designs. In fact, he didn’t even know she was going to wear the dress he had submitted for consideration weeks earlier until he saw her on TV. But, prior to that, Wu had already been making a name for himself in the fashion world. His first collection in 2006 (at only 23 years old!) put him on the map as one of America’s leading designers. Influenced by the early days of ready-to-wear in the fifties, Wu believes in celebrating the curves of a woman’s body and creates frocks that emphasize the hourglass figure. In January 2008 he received the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for Women’s Ready-to-Wear as well as being one of the finalists in the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund. So now that you know who he is, you won’t want to miss his trunk show at Nordstrom NorthPark this Friday, June 12 from 11am-4pm in the Collectors department on the second floor. A rep will be there to answer any questions you may have so now is the perfect time to check out his gorgeous pieces in person. To schedule an appointment or for more info, contact the store at (214)231-3900, extension 1350.
Darlings of country radio Rascal Flatts sure have been busy. Not only have they gone on tour to support their new album Unstoppable, but they’ve also teamed up with JCPenney on the retailer’s American Living clothing line. Lucky for you, in honor of this partnership, we have a pair of tickets to give away for the band’s Saturday-night show at Superpages.com Center. Courtesy of JCPenney and American Living, which bills itself as “an affordable, all-American lifestyle brand for the entire family and home,” the tickets also include passes to meet the guys at a pre-show meet-and-greet at the JCPenney hospitality tent. Winners will get to check out the boys’ threads—all from American Living, of course—up close and personal. To enter, click on my name and send me an e-mail. I’ll choose the winner at random and notify him or her first thing Friday morning. Good luck, y’all!
