Spotted: Minka Kelly and Derek Jeter at Nordstrom

This doesn’t have much to do with beauty or fashion, besides the fact that I was shopping at Nordstrom at Barton Creek Mall in Austin this past Saturday with a friend of mine, when we spotted a couple that we both recognized. It took us a moment to realize who they were. It was none other than “rumored” couple, Derek Jeter (New York Yankees captain) and Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights actress), looking quite chummy. So there you have it. What guy would accompany a girl to the mall unless he was forced to or wanted to spend as much time with her as possible? Speaking of Nordstrom, their Half-Yearly Sale for women and kids starts this Wednesday. Save 40% and more on shoes, handbags, clothes and accessories. Earn twice the rewards points if you pay with your Nordstrom card!

Stay Home for the Holidays With Rosewood

In honor of Sadie Hawkins Day–remember the time when girls asked boys for a date, and it was actually bold and taboo?–Rosewood Hotels & Resorts is offering the Sadie Hawkins Package for take-charge women and the men lucky enough to receive the invitation. True, Rosewood has hotels all over the world, not just in Dallas, but these days we may need to vacation a little closer to home, so I say call up the Crescent or the Mansion STAT for a little romance and R&R at a 20% discount. The package includes accommodations for two nights, in-room breakfast for two, dinner for two, and massage for two. Rates are $670–$2,500, and the offer is good November 14 through December 15. If I had the money, and a man, I would totally do this.

Check Out This Exhibit: More About Why

Katherine Baronet is an artist, a yogi, and creator of the Pink Alien. We love her so much that we wrote about her line of super-cute yoga/athletic/lounge wear in the spring 2008 D Beauty Awards. But let’s get back to her art. She’s having a show this Friday, November 7, called “More About Why” at Shamrock Studio (4312 1/2 Elm St.), where she’s offering more than 65 5×7 paintings, collage, poetry, and photos celebrating her adventure–and found love–on the Big Island of Hawaii. Each piece is $150, and a portion of the proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels in Dallas. Preview is at 6 pm, and the sale begins at 6:30. Hope to see you there.

COR Launches New Products

The people at Stanley Korshak (love the new web site) are nuts about COR Silver Soap, reportedly the best-selling cleanser in the store–and that sucker is $125! Which means one of two things: excellent marketing or the darn thing takes 10 years off your face. (If someone out there uses this soap, I want to know if it’s worth $125.) Anyhoo, I digress. The real news here is that there are three new products to boost the soap’s results: Silver Anytime Moisturizer, Silver Wrinkle Serum, and Silver Eye Cream. The products are designed to even skin tone, maintain moisture, and replenish collagen using the same patented technology and active ingredients as Cor soap. Stay with me after the jump for a full list of active ingredients. And, COR users, let me hear from you! (more…)

Green Gift Ideas from Current Energy

At a time when being kind to the environment is just as important as price, our friends at Current Energy have a few gift ideas for the earth-loving person on your list. No, they aren’t sexy. But these days I’m more interested in functionality, especially after buying a house. So I would totally dig this wind-up LED flashlight from Freeplay ($35) that doesn’t require batteries or bulbs.

This one would make a good stocking stuffer, especially for the yogi or gym rat on your list: a personal water filtration bottle ($14). Yes, I know. I have water bottle fatigue, too. But this one has a built-in filter, so it’ll remove any chlorine, bad taste, bad odors, heavy metals, lead, and mercury from your tap water. For more ideas, go to the Current Energy web site, or visit the store on Knox.

November Specials at Grand Spa

First I have to take a deep breath, because I can’t believe it’s November already. There now. All better. Okay, I know times are tough, but those are precisely the times when we need to pamper ourselves, just a little. Well, Grand Spa in Addison is helping the cause with a long list of November specials:  $62 mani/pedis; 10% off all nail products; 15% off facials over $115; complimentary collagen eye mask on any facial;  20% off highlights, lowlights, and single-process color; and complimentary shampoo and style with any body massage 80 minutes or longer. (These specials are available Sunday-Wednesday only, BTW.) Plus, the spa is offering pumpkin scrubs and massages for the season. So go ahead and spoil yourself–or perhaps get a gift certificate for another girl in need.
