Lake Austin Spa is a little respite within the Austin city limits. In addition to a mind-boggling array of spa treatments–including many celebrating its Texas locale–it offers cool activities such as cooking classes and, now, a Style Series. The spa is bringing in designers, authors, and other style and beauty experts for “intimate discussions.” And these are people worth the three-hour drive to see: designers Carmen Marc Valvo and Kay Unger, InStyle fashion director Hal Rubenstein, author Evan Handler (you know him as Harry from Sex and the City), and many more. Stick with me past the jump for the full lineup of events through February 2009. So fun! (more…)
I would never dare take a shower without slathering body lotion on my moistened skin afterward–and I have the soft-as-a-baby’s-butt skin to prove it. I’m not fancy, either. I usually use something as simple and affordable as fragrance free Lubriderm. Well, ladies, I think I’ve finally broken my Lubriderm addiction, because I’m currently obsessed with Mama Mio’s Super-rich Body Cream. The label reads “super juicy,” and, honestly, there’s no better way to describe this lotion loaded with shea butter, avocado oil, and evening primrose. Yes, the Mama Mio line was originally designed for the special needs of moms-to-be, but I don’t care, because my skin deserves to be super juicy too! You can buy Mama Mio products at the Ritz-Carlton Spa.
I believe we girls are all savvy enough these days to know what miracles a nice-fitting bra can accomplish. (If you haven’t had a proper fitting yet, go do it—Trousseau in West Village is a good place.) So I’m not sure what the makers of the Bra Clip—or Bralief—were thinking. Their creation attaches to the bra straps and is supposed to add perkiness and keep straps from falling and/or digging in. Like I said, a good bra in the right size can do the same things. But in the interest of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I wanted to share this one tidbit with you: if by some chance you want to see what the Bra Clip is all about, then be sure and purchase the Cotton Candy model. Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to charities benefiting breast cancer awareness.
So I just told you that Sussie’s is joining forces with Pumps to create an in-store shoe boutique. Well, to celebrate this happy union, there will be bellinis and snacks from 11 am-6 pm at Sussie’s on Thursday, October 16. (Sussie’s is located on Preston near Lebanon, in Frisco, just north of Stonebriar Center.) Pumps owner A’Lisa Adams will be there to show off her fab collection of shoes. This all sounds like the perfect excuse to play hooky! And tell Rory I sent you.
