Cole Haan Celebrates 80 Years

Cole Haan Medallion/Anna SheffieldBack when I was in Junior High, Cole Haan loafers were a must-have if you wanted to be considered stylish. The loafer has come a long (yes, I am aware that I am aging myself) way and so has the iconic brand that’s celebrating its 80th anniversary this fall. To commemorate it, Cole Haan has released limited-edition Anniversay Collection creations, including the Penny Air High Moccasin, the Saddle Denney Bag, and limited-edition jewelry in collaboration with acclaimed jewelry designer Anna Sheffield (Marc Jacobs and Phillip Lim have called on her to create baubles for their runway shows). The collection takes its lead from the designer’s signature penny keepsakes, created to adorn Cole Haan’s anniversary penny loafer collection. The assortment of charm bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and cufflinks are available at the Cole Haan boutique in Highland Park Village. Cole Haan’s Design Director, Paul Overfield, and jewelry designer Anna Sheffield are in town this evening for a special in-store event.

On the Hunt for Voluminous Hair

I’m a sucker for any product with a “new” sticker on the package. (Particularly gum—I buy any gum that claims to have a new flavor.) Usually I wind up with buyer’s remorse, scolding myself for becoming pathetic prey to advertising, but sometimes it leads to a seriously genius purchase. Like the time I bought John Frieda’s new Luxurious Volume shampoo and conditioner… I have really long hair—like down-to-my-lower-back-long—and it’s really tough to get any volume out of it. So far, though, I love this collection. When I’m finished blowing dry my hair, I have full, bouncy locks sans the greasy residue. But I want to know what other volume-seeking women like. Any suggestions? photo courtesy of www.johnfrieda.com

Aaaah, Spa Pangea…

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the Vichy shower hydration scrub and polish at Daired’s Spa Pangea in Arlington. It’s the perfect day spa that makes you feel like you’re a million miles away from home when you’re just a hop, skip and a jump away. We even wrote about this wonderful spa in the spring issue of D Beauty. I was a little hesitant getting down to my birthday suit for my treatment but my therapist, Karon, made me feel completely comfortable. The parts I wanted to keep private were covered the entire time. When she turned on the shower, I closed my eyes and fell into a blissful trance. The warmth of the water coming from multiple shower heads felt so much better than I could have ever imagined. Karon then began scrubbing me. Between the lovely smell of the scrub and the warmth of the shower, I was in heaven. It felt slightly odd at first to have someone else “wash” me but I imagined myself as Marie Antoinette being pampered by her maids-in-waiting and thought, “I deserve to be pampered as much as she did!” With that, all discomfort disappeared and I drifted into total relaxation. Afterward, Keron left and I dried off. She then took me to another room to apply moisturizer which actually felt like a mini-massage. I would definitely do this again! Like I said, I wasn’t sure about it at first but let me assure you it was FANTASTIC. Daired’s Spa Pangea has all kinds of unique treatments and I am proof that they are worth trying out. Take some time to reward yourself for all your hard work. You deserve it!

Oh and p.s. - That’s not me in the photo, as much as I’d like to say it is.

Sip & Shop at Epiphany Boutique October 4

Bishop Arts boutique Epiphany is having a Sip & Shop event this Saturday, October 4, from 5-9 pm. The buys of the night are Gumdrops Necklaces by local designer Carli Elizabeth: precious and semiprecious drops on 14-karat gold-filled chains. Once you pop in for a new fall accessory, you can enjoy prickly pear margaritas and venison Frito pie at Tillman’s Roadhouse or fried green tomatoes and fried catfish at Hattie’s or … really, the possibilities are endless. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday night with some girlfriends.
