That’s One Hardworking Water

There’s nothing I like more than a good mist on my face–but it’s usually while I’m tanning poolside or reclining on the beach in some tropical location. However, Evian has recently launched Evian Brumisateur, which does oh-so-much more than simply cool and refresh. With regular use–does that mean, like, 20 times a day?–the unique mineral composition tones and moisturizes the skin, increasing hydration by 16 percent. What girl doesn’t want a fresh, dewy complexion? Read on for how to use this little guy, which made an appearance backstage during NY Fashion Week. (more…)

Dude, Where’s My Bandanna?

Fall is a busy time here at ShopTalk headquarters. Hanging over my head at the moment are all manner of stories to write, stories to edit, phone calls to make, and e-mails to return. So, like any good procrastinator, instead of spending my morning getting a head-start on all my work, I decided to read Texas Monthly, where I learned all I ever needed to know about Matthew McConaughey’s current foray into fashion. In the October issue, the cover boy spews all sorts of stoner-philosopher gems while pimping his j.k. livin line of clothing. In the giggle-worthy story by John Spong, entire paragraphs are devoted to such subjects as flip-flops and bandannas. “No headbands. It’s got to be a bandanna,” says the surfer dude and star of Surfer, Dude. “So you can mix it up. Sometimes I like to roll it thin, do like an Indian thing with it. Other times I wear it wider, or even flat on my head like a do-rag, Geronimo- or Tupac-style…” That’s just a taste, friends. Matty is full of this stuff. Go here to get a closer look at the actor’s duds and here to read the entire piece (subscription required). It’s worth it, bros.

Mikimoto Necklace Giveaway at Portero.com

Portero.com, a luxury auction site offering authenticated “pristine and pre-owned” watches, jewelry, accessories, art, and housewares, is giving away the Mikimoto necklace pictured left. A $1,300 value. Enter here. It has diamonds, which are probably too “blingy” for your taste, and a pearl, which is so old school. Why would you want that? You’re probably not interested. The only reason I entered was because I’m a sucker for giveaways, but it’s not like it’s an awesome piece or anything. I questioned even telling you ShopTalkers about it, not because I wanted my odds of winning to be better (that’s so beneath me), but because you probably wouldn’t want it. Right?

Nordstrom Shoe Shopping

I bought shoes instead of going to lunch today. I walked away with two cute-as-can-be pairs of shoes, thanks, in large part, to Tim Ridge, a salesperson and shoe expert at NorthPark’s Nordstrom. Usually I have a girlfriend or two with me when I shoe-shop. This way, when my budget demands that I choose only one pair, I have plenty of help making the earth-shattering decision at the end. Today, it was just me. Until there was Tim. Then we were a team, a force that couldn’t be stopped—especially after he told me I have pretty feet. (And actually I stopped at two pairs.) In any case, if you’re serious about shoes and want a valuable and fashionable opinion, ask for Tim Ridge next time you’re at Nordstrom. He’s great. By the way, the shoe in the picture is not part of my shopping trip today (even though I like them, too), but you can buy them here.

Are You Ready For Prime Time?

Deion and Pilar Sanders, who have done all sorts of things during their respective careers but who stand out in my mind only for this shining example of reality television, are offering a free sample of their Prime Time Power Workout. On October 1 and 2 from 10-11:30 am, Deion and Pilar will be on hand at Integrated Athletic Development in Carrollton to lead a 60-minute workout that is said to feature the latest, most innovative training techniques for both men and women. There’s also a special workout from 11:30 am-12:30 pm designed for the over-50 set.

Warning: Harajuku Lovers Fragrances Cause Grown Women To Act Like 8-year-olds

When my box of Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers fragrances (representing herself and her band members) arrived I was as giddy as a school girl. I quickly gathered all five into my arms and practically ran to a co-worker’s desk to show her. Another friend was there at the time and the moment they saw me their jaws dropped and they completely blew off the guy they were talking to. They ran over to me grabbing at the boxes in my arms. It was like Christmas morning as we opened each box oohing and aahing about how cute the dolls on the bottles were. Before even smelling them, we began discussing which one represented each of us the best. “I”m totally the Gwen doll!” “Music looks like me because I have brown hair so she’s mine.” It went on and on as we switched back and forth and debated who best resembled each one. I felt bad for the people in the cubicles around us. (more…)
