J.R. Watkins’ Lotion is Just Right

Some lotions are too sheer. They leave a faint scent, but don’t actually moisturize. It’s as if you wasted your time applying anything at all. Some lotions are too greasy. They leave such a thick trail of goo behind, you feel like you’re being smothered by The Blob all day long. (I know you know what I mean.) Hello J.R. Watkins’ Hand & Body Cream. This lotion’s just right. The consistency is perfect: thick, but not too thick, silky, but not like silicone, and creamy, but not overwhelmingly so. My favorite scent is Aloe & Green Tea. The scent is clean and refreshing, not nauseating, and it doesn’t interfere with my perfume. And the best part? J.R. Watkins is a natural apothecary, so the products are full of only the good stuff, none of the bad. For an extra push in the hydration department, try the Body Cream—the Lemon Cream scent is beyond delicious. This lotion absorbs immediately into the skin, with no shiny residue, but leaves your skin feeling seriously moisturized for the entire day. Oh yeah, and the lotions are totally affordable at $8.99 for the Hand & Body Lotion and $7.99 for the Body Cream. Available at Ulta stores and the North Dallas Target or at jrwatkins.com.

Makeup & Martinis at NYLO

Tomorrow night, NYLO’s hosting (drumroll) Makeup & Martinis! Very clever with the headline, I know. Perhaps I should have gone with Cosmetics & Cocktails. Beauty & Beverages? … I digress.

Sip your Dior-tini (will the custom-tini crazy never die?) and get the scoop on Christian Dior’s makeup line from the Dior Makeup Artist Team. And in that order. Everyone looks better after a drink.

RSVP with Lindsey Murphy at 972-963-9091 to set up an appointment with a Dior Makeup Artist, or just enjoy the happy hour specials at the bar. Details: Thursday, Sept. 25, 5:00-8:00pm.

Gossip Girl Stops Traffic, Carries Cute Bag

Not sure why this is news exactly. The tidbit came to me under the header “STYLE ALERT****STYLE ALERT****STYLE ALERT****STYLE ALERT.” But that Kooba bag Gossip Girl starlet Blake Lively is carrying sure is cute. (Kooba is available at Neiman Marcus and Barneys New York.) I don’t watch Gossip Girl, but you know who does? Victoria Snee, that’s who.

Sussie’s + Pumps = Match Made in Heaven

You may recall reading about my very favorite boutique, Sussie’s, and ridiculously cute shoe store Pumps in McKinney, in spring 2008’s D Beauty Awards. Well, yesterday Sussie’s owner Rory Boyd confirmed that she’s expanding her Frisco store to make room for a Pumps in-store shoe boutique. So under one roof you’ll find pieces by Elie Tahari, Milly, Ella Moss, and Trina Turk and shoes by such designers as Loeffler Randall, Nanette Lepore, and Corso Como. Not to mention a carefully edited selection of accessories and handbags (love the Double Happiness). It’s official: I have absolutely no reason to shop anywhere else.

Fish Pedicures Swim Into Frisco!

I’m sure you’ve heard the hubbub about these fish pedicures, during which tiny, toothless fish eat the dead skin off your feet. (Gnarly, right?) Well, Mai Caldwell, owner of Zen Luxury Nail & Beauty Bar in Frisco, did her research and purchased 600 of the little guys to bring us a relaxing, upscale “Zen” version of this ancient Asian tradition. For an extra $15, you can spend 15 minutes with your feet in this beautiful vessel, feet resting on smooth river rocks, while the fish go to work. Here’s the lowdown: (more…)
