Fan Favorites: Shampoo and Conditioner

The fight continues. Some argue shampoo is better. It goes on first and cleans the hair. For others, conditioner is better. It leaves the hair silky and smooth. But I say, can’t we all just get along? I, for one, can’t have one without the other. Right now I use TRESemme, and I’m very pleased (possibly because I bought the set at Sam’s, and it’s practically a lifetime supply—frugal much?). But tell me, how fierce is your hair? Inquiring minds want to know what’s hot in hair.

I am a conditioner girl. I feel like shampoo is shampoo–as long as it lathers well (I hate it when it doesn’t)! That said, I swear by Bumble & Bumble hair products. The Super Rich conditioner is my absolute favorite. Right now I’m using the Creme de Coco shampoo, and it smells really good. But I think I could pair up any shampoo with that conditioner and be happy.

I love love love Keratase!! The Shampoo is great; it smells great and leaves your hair looking like you walked out of the salon. The only downside is the price ($32). They also have a conditioning mask that I swear by. Its called Care Volumactive. I only use it once a week and it too is pricy ($58), but well worth it! It makes my fine blond hair bounce like Jessica Simpson’s!! I also like Frederic Fekkai Technicion Shampoo, Conditioner and Mask (for color treated and highlighted hair). It makes my highlights last longer which saves me money and its shampoo is only $23.

I love Joico – it is pretty reasonable ($25 ea for the 33oz shampoo and conditioner at Ulta) and gives my hair so much body – and trust me, naturally I have zero. I’ve used their color care products so I can only imagine what would happen if I picked up their body products…which I might have to do now that I think of it.

I use the MOP Glisten shampoo and conditioner to get extra shine. It’s about $15 for the bottle (but the bottle is pretty small). I get mine at Beauty Brands but I think I’ve seen it at Ulta as well.

I’m doing a radical hair experiment right now called “no ‘poo.” I haven’t used conventional shampoo or conditioner for more than a month. I first read about it in Lorraine Massey’s book “Curly Girl” (though I’m doing a modified version of her suggested routine). And guess what? It’s pretty good! Less frizz, almost no dandruff, well-defined curls… But before I started this routine, my go-to product was Origins’ Knot Free Conditioning Rinse.

I use Cutler products. The scent is unreal. I discovered them in the Gansvoort Hotel in NYC and have been using the line ever since. I love their lotion and body wash, too.

Purology is still a fave, too! (the purple line)

I gotta go with Julz’s second choice on this one. I use Frederick Fekkai’s Shea Butter moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I love it, and it smells delicious!! Makes my hair very soft and shiny! Conditioner comes in 1st with me, with long hair it’s a must!

Ojon’s shampoo and conditioner for dry hair are amazing and the only product that can rival Kerastase for my affection. Their deep conditioning treatment is amazing and seriously has changed the lives of several of my friends. Makes your hair actually look like you’ve had your color refreshed and a blow out. Also Davines NouNou deep conditioner is fab.
