I’m Just That Devoted (And Anal Retentive)

So today during one of our short breaks between interviewing the semi-finalists for D Beauty’s 10 Most Beautiful Women in Dallas, I happened to pull out all the lipsticks and glosses that I carry in my purse. Our art director, Jamie thought it was so funny that she took a picture of them. Now, I must say that I do it all in the interest of science. I have to see how they look in different lighting situations (and with different outfits) so they must be available to me at all times. Anyway, I am writing this as proof of how utterly devoted I am to our readers by providing reliable, scientific reports on all things beauty-related. My shoulder hurts from the weight of my purse for YOU, ShopTalkers!

More Mascara

\"Prescriptives Beyond Long Mascara\"As Kristin Hull previously addressed her quest to find the best mascara, I too have been on a mission and I think I have discovered a new favorite. Prescriptives “Beyond Long” maximum length mascara visibly lengthens my lashes, goes on clump-free, and lasts all day. You can buy it locally at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Dillard’s, and Macy’s.

Labor Day not only means an extra day off work, but for those of you ready to brave the crowds, there are many sales to shop including the annual Labor Day Weekend Sale at Allen Premium Outlets. Enjoy deep discounts on top of the already 25%-65% off merchandise. Shop over 100 outlet stores including new additions Burberry (we still have yet to check this on out, but look forward to it) and Coach. Rue La La VIP Code

Rue La La websiteWe’ve mentioned various web sites that tout designer labels for less, and I am a big fan of Gilt Groupe myself but I have recently become a member and fan of Rue La La, a new invitation-only private sale site that sells current season men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing and accessories (think: Yves Saint Laurent, Nicole Miller, Cynthia Steffe, Rich & Skinny), as well as home and beauty products at 30%-80% below retail. There are three sales a week and each sale lasts two days, so there is always something new. There is currently a waiting list to join the site, but lucky for you, we have a special code that will get you immediate access. All you have to do is go to www.ruelala.com  and click “invited by a member” and enter VIP@ruelala.com. Happy shopping!

Go, Bobe, Go!

Bobe (pronounced “bow-bee”) has whipped up some excellent cream. Literally. Their “Soy Fabulous Whipped Body Butter” is exactly that. It’s light and fluffy like a mousse and isn’t greasy AT ALL. It bugs me to no end when I apply cream to my hands and I can’t touch anything for 20 minutes while I wait for it to permeate my thirsty epidermis. I usually can’t wait that long so I end up washing my hands which probably defeats the purpose of the hand cream in the first place. With Bobe’s cream I can pet my cats in minutes without ending up with hairy palms. It comes in an insane amount of scents ranging from “7-Up Pound Cake” to “Floral Splash” to “Seven Seas.” I have the “Bermuda Triangle” scent and love it because it’s soft and not overpowering. Oh and Bobe is an acronym for “beyond ordinary bath essentials” and well, it’s true!

FitFlops Sound Like Something Someone Should Try And Tell Me How It Works

I know a lot of people like MBT’s, the shoes that supposedly reduce cellulite. Well, if you’re looking for a shoe that works better during the summer months and could potentially be worn to work (I said potentially, depending on your office), FitFlops are for you. Developed by Marcia Killgore, the founder of Bliss Spas, the “flip flop with a gym built in” is apparently selling out all over the country. A specially designed midsole will “extend the amount of time slow twitch muscles–which convert fat to energy–are engaged during each step by approximately 10-12%.” This, along with increasing gluteal muscle response, helps minimize cellulite. What do you think? Would you wear this flipflop?

Cabana Re-Opens With Great Fall Pieces

If you haven’t had a chance to stop by Cabana, the great store in the pool house behind owner Merry Vose’s home on Devonshire (read about it here from the May ‘07  issue of D Mag), now is a good time to check it out. She’s got new fall items like skinny jeans from Fabulous Aristocrat, Smythe jackets, and Richard Ruiz tops. The only catch? They’re only open three days a week. Monday and Friday from 9–12 and Wednesday from 9–2 (if you go on Wed say hi to our friend Brooke who works there). The address is 9115 Devonshire, 972-281-7350.

Meet Nastia Liukin at JCPenney

We didn’t get to see as much of the Olympics as we would have liked, but one event we tried not to miss was women’s gymnastics. Those girls were all so cute and talented, especially North Dallasite Nastia Liukin. If you loved her too, meet her this weekend at JCPenney at the Collin Creek Mall. She’ll be there signing autographs from 2–4pm. The event is sponsored by Vanilla Sky Jeans, which apparently have no affiliation to that creepy Tom Cruise movie. Jump for the press release.

Cowgirl Up At The Gypsy Wagon

Get your cowgirl on at the Heritage Boot Trunk Show set for Saturday, September 13, from 10 am to 6 pm at The Gypsy Wagon. If you haven’t yet paid a visit to this funky and charming tattoo parlor-turned-boutique, this is a fine opportunity to do so. The Austin boot makers will be on location for one day only showing off their newest designs. But before you go, be sure and check out the Heritage Boot website. If you see a particular style that you just have to have, e-mail Carley at the Wagon (carley@the-gypsy-wagon.com), and she’ll be sure they bring your size. Giddy-up, girls!
